In the name of God Amen I Thomas Dungate of the parish of Eastgrinsted in the County of Sussex ...ner? being infirm of body but of sound & perfect mind & memory thanks be given to God do hereby make my last Will and Testament in manner following (viz) Inprimis I bequeath my soul into the hands of God that gave itt hoping through the meritts of Jesus Christ my Saviour to obtain forgivenesse of my sins & to inheritt everlasting life & my body to be buried in the churchyard of the parish church of West Hoathley in the aforesd County of Sussex as near my relacons there as may be att the discretion of my executrix here after named. Item I give & bequeath unto my brother John Dungate the sume of five shillings to be paid unto him within twelve moneths after my decease. Item I give & bequeath unto my brother John Jupp the sume of two shillings & to each of his children twelve pence apeice to be paid unto them sev’ally within twelve moneths next after my decease. Item I give & bequeath unto Anne Willard of Eastgrinsted aforesaid spinster now living with me all my goods & chattles whatsoever reall & personall whom I make sole executrix of this my last Will & Testament & I do hereby desire her to pay all my debts justly owing to any person or persons whatsoever. Item I do hereby give devise and bequeath unto the said Anne Willard & to her heirs and assigns for ever all that my messuage or tenem’t called Willards Bridge & the barn close garden & the orchard as itt is now inclosed & the meadow next the river being two acres more or lesse and the tanyard with their and every of their appurtenances upon this trust and confidence that she the said Anne Willard shall as soon as may be after my decease sell the said messuage lands & premisses with the appurtenances & with the money thereby raised pay my debts in case my personall estate will not amount to the discharge of all my debts. And in case the said Anne Willard can by the moneys raised by sale of my goods and chattles or otherwise pay all my debts & likewise do pay all my debts justly due then I do hereby give & devise the said messuage or tenement lands & premisses called Willards Bridge with their and every of their appurtenances unto the said Anne Willard her heirs and assigns for ever. Item whereas I have surrendered into the hands of the Lord of the Mannor of Imberhorne all that parcell of customary land lying near Willards Bridge in Eastgrinsted aforesaid to such use & uses as I should by my last Will & Testament limitt or appoint I do hereby limitt & appoint the uses of the said surrender to be to the use of the said Anne Willard her heirs & assigns for ever. In wittnes whereof I the said Thomas Dungate have hereunto sett my hand & seal the seventh day of July in the second year of the reigne of our Sov’aign Lord King James the Second over England &c Annoq Dni 1686.
