Francis Stripp & Sarah Payne were not one of my direct ancestors but they are related to me as later indirect generations of a direct ancestor.

Key Dates:

Francis Stripp was baptised on 9th July 1780 in Crowhurst, Surrey (from Godstone) who was the son of John Stripp ( & Elizabeth) who was the son of William Stripp 1710 & Elizabeth Underhill. He possibly married Sarah Payne on 7th April 1809 in Godstone, Surrey (shown as Strip - Sarah shown as Rayne in Surrey marriage index, but as Payne in IGI). Francis probably died in about November 1856 in Godstone RD, Surrey.

Sarah Payne birth details are not known.

Francis & Sarah had eight known children.
  1. William Stripp was baptised on 10th February 1811 in Crowhurst, Surrey. He probably married Susanna Illman on 23rd June 1835 in Tandridge, Surrey. William was a Wheelwright and lived in 1841 at Willett Wood, Horne,Surrey; in 1851 he was living in Lingfield, Surrey; and in 1861 was living in Godstone Road, Lingfield. He was probably was buried on 30th December 1865 in Lingfield, Surrey ('aged 55'). William & Sarah had ten children.
    1. Sophia Stripp was born in about 1835 possibly in Lingfield, Surrey. She possibly had a child in Lingfield baseborn (Rosina 1857).
    2. Felix Stripp was born in about November 1837 possibly in Horne, Surrey (Godstone RD). He married in about August 1859 in East Grinstead RD, Sussex.
    3. Phillis Stripp was born in about February 1840 possibly in Horne, Surrey (Godstone RD).
    4. Aspasia Stripp (Aspacio) was born in about August 1842 possibly in Horne, Surrey (Godstone RD). He married (as Aspacio) Fanny Bashford in about February 1867 in East Grinstead RD, Sussex. Aspasia & Fanny had at least one child Katherine born 1869 at Lingfield, Surrey.
    5. Theron Stripp was born in about November 1844 possibly in Lingfield, Surrey (East Grinstead RD). He married Annie Stone in about May 1871 in Godstone RD. Theron & Annie had five children in Godstone, Caterham & Croydon (Kate, Annie, William J, Silas, Ernest W). (The following information was provided by John Stripp (gracejohn@ntlworld.com) who is a direct descendant of Silas Stripp). Silas married firstly Joyce Evelyn Alice Mountjoy on 16th February 1901 in Upper Tooting. He married secondly Ruth Caroline RAE on 6th September 1907 in Kensington. Silas & Ruth had children David Theron Stripp (1910-1987) & Winifred Edith Stripp (1909-1995)- Silas died on 16th Jul 1951 (about age 73) in Wallington, Surrey. David Theron Stripp had a son John David Rae Stripp. In 1901 Cenus Silas was living at 26 Chetwode Road with his wife Joyce and also the rest of Theron Stripp's family. In 1905 he was living at 54 Noyna Road, Upper Tooting. In 1911 he was living at 27 Hydethorpe Road, Balham.
    6. Julius Stripp was born in about February 1847 possibly in Lingfield, Surrey (East Grinstead RD). He married Salome Carpenter in about November 1869 in Reigate RD and had four children in Redhill, Burstow & Croydon ( Harvey L, Percival C, Julius, Agnes S). Salome probably died in about February 1906 in Cuckfield RD, Sussex (aged 61')
    7. Mahala Stripp (Mahali) was born in about August 1849 possibly in Lingfield, Surrey (East Grinstead RD)
    8. Fountana Stripp was born in about November 1851 possibly in Lingfield, Surrey (East Grinstead RD) and she died in about February 1858 in East Grinstead RD, Sussex (shown as Fantana Strip)
    9. Diana Stripp was born in about February 1854 possibly in Lingfield, Surrey (East Grinstead RD)
    10. Newton Stripp was born in about August 1856 (or February 1857) possibly in Lingfield, Surrey (East Grinstead RD)
  2. Mary Stripp (Strip) was baptised on 23rd October 1814 in Lingfield, Surrey. She married James Nash in about 1835 and had two children (Eleanor & George). In 1841 Census she was living with her father Francis and son George in Blindley Heath. (The following information was provided by Megan Wagner (benne_lee@yahoo.com) who is a direct descendant of Mary). On 22nd July 1842 James, Mary & family emigrated to America on the ship 'Westminster' (James Nash 29 labourer, Mary Nash 28 labourer, Ellen S 6, George 2 - see M237 NY Passenger Lists roll 49 June 1 - July 30, 1842). Mary and James settled in Michigan and had five more children (Meriam (1845), William (1847), Franklin (1849), Charles (1852), Andrew (1855) - details from US Census in Mitchigan).
  3. John Stripp (Strip) was baptised on 30th June 1816 in Lingfield, Surrey.(Francis shown as from Tandridge)
  4. George Stripp (Stripe) was baptised on 22nd July 1819 in Lingfield, Surrey.(Francis shown as from Tandridge). He married Eleanor Leigh in about May 1840 in Reigate RD, Surrey.
  5. Peter Stripp (Strip) was baptised on 5th January 1823 in Lingfield, Surrey. (Francis shown as from Tandridge)
  6. Anna Stripp (Strip) was baptised on 15th May 1825 in Lingfield, Surrey. (Francis shown as from Tandridge)
  7. Louisa Stripp (Strip) was born in about 1833 possibly in Lingfield or Blindly Heath, Surrey.
  8. Ellen Stripp (Strip) was born in about 1836 possibly in Lingfield or Blindly Heath, Surrey.

  1. There were numerous differant spellings of "Stripp" in the parish registers eg (Strip, Stripp, Strype, Stripe, Streape, Strape, Streap). 'Streape' tended to be used up to about 1800, 'Strip' was then normally used to about 1840 and then 'Stripp' became the standard.
