Ralph Shirley were maybe possibly ancestors of mine, but all the links have yet to be confirmed.
Key Dates:
Ralph Shirley was maybe possibly born in about 1413 possibly in Derbyshire. He possibly married
Margaret Stauton, daughter of John Stuaton. He married secondly Elizabeth Blount. Ralph died in about 1466
Possible earlier ancestors were:
Sir Hugh Shirley (b. ca 1351, Shirley, Derbyshire, England; d. 7-22-1403, Shrewbury,
Sussex, England) m. ca 1374, Wiston, Sussex, England, BEATRICE de BRAOSE
(b. ca 1357, Wiston, Sussex, England; d. 1440), daughter of PETER de BRAOSE and
JOAN de PERCY

Derbyshire, England, JOAN BASSET (b. ca 1394, Brailesford, England), daughter of
THOMAS BASSET and MARGARET MERINGER
My only interest here is to attempt to documents the ancestors of the Mid Sussex Shirleys. See also John Shirley 1460. Ancestry line is very unclear

The manor of West Grinstead, the crown manor, was granted to Thomas West, Lord de la Warr on the accession of Henry VII and retained for only 3 years. Before the year 1504 the manor had passed to Sir Henry Roos who bequesthed it to his wife Matilda. After her death in 1511, the manor devolved to his grandchild, Elizabeth, daughter of Marmaduke Gorges, then wife of Thomas Shirley and thus it became owned by Thomas Shirley.
