Border
General History

William Feldwick & Anne Walker were one of my 7th generation ancestors.

Key Dates:

William Feldwick was baptised on 3th June 1729 in West Hoathly, Sussex. He was the son of Thomas Feldwick & Jane Dungate. He was mentioned in his father's 'Will' of 1748. He married Anne Walker on 19th November 1752 in Withyham, Sussex (' William of West Hoathly & Ann'). William left a 'Will' that was dated 17th February 1807 and he was said to be of Edenbridge. William was probably buried on 26th November 1808 in Crowhurst, Surrey ('aged 79').

Anne Walker birth details are unknown.

He was mentioned in his bother Joseph Feldwick's 'Will' of 1830, but NOT shown as deceased (but assume this was an error). He is commemorated on his brother Joseph's gravestone in Edenbridge (see documents below), but it is unclear if he was actually buried there. (There is a query here as the date of death on the gravestone is shown as 14th June 1829 and his age as 65 indicating that possibly the gravestone details are not correct). William & Elizabeth had two children.

She was mentioned in her father William Feldwick's 'Will' of 1807 as Priscilla Grumbridge, deceased and in her bother Joseph Feldwick's 'Will' of 1830 as Priscilla Groombridge, deceased. Priscilla & Thomas had at least three children (Jane, Lydia & George Groombridge who were mentioned in their grandfather William Feldwick's 'Will' of 1807 and their uncle Joseph Feldwick's 'Will' of 1830)
  6. Mary Feldwick was baptised on 3rd July 1763 in Crowhurst, Surrey. She married William Tidey. Verification & Concerns Returns to 'Top of Page'

  1. There were numerous differant spellings of "Feldwick" in the parish registers eg Feldwick, Fieldwick, Feldewick, Feldweeke, Feldwicke, Velvick, Vilfick, Velveck.
  2. For the period 1713 - 1736 (age at marriage of 16 to age 60 at birth of youngest child), there was one William Feldwick born in West Hoathly, two were born in the adjacent parishes and none born in the surrounding parishes. It is probable that the identified William is the correct one.
    1. 03/06/1729 in West Hoathly son of Thomas & Jane
    2. 25/03/1726 in Horsted Keynes son of Henry
    3. 11/10/1730 in Maresfield son of George & Anne
  3. All the children were shown born to William & Anne. In the period 1742-1754, (earliest age at marriage of 16 to year of birth of first child), only one marriage of a William has been identified so the one to Anne Walker is very likely to be correct.
