Henry Dungate & Jane Plawe were one of my 11th generation ancestors.

Key Dates:

Henry Dungate was probably baptised on 15th November 1607 in East Grinstead, Sussex, the son of Thomas Dungate & Catherine. He was probably a witness to his brother Thomas's 'Will' of 1673. He married Jane Plaw on 19th August 1660 in East Grinstead, Sussex, but shown as married in London. Henry was buried on 14th August 1675 in West Hoathly, Sussex.

Jane Plawe was baptised on 2nd October 1631 in East Grinstead, Sussex. She was the daughter of Nicholas Plawe & Elizabeth . Jane left a 'Will' dated 11th January 1696 and died prior to July 1699.

  1. Anne Dungate was possibly baptised on 4th June 1661 in possibly West Hoathly, Sussex (not shown in register). She was mentioned in her mother's 'Will' of 1695. She married Joseph Dungate. Details of Joseph Dungate & Anne Dungate are shown separately as they are direct ancestors.
  2. Mary Dungate was baptised on 11th May 1662 in West Hoathly, Sussex. She probably died prior to 1695 as she was not mentioned in her mother's 'Will' of 1695.
  3. John Dungate was baptised on 12th April 1663 in West Hoathly, Sussex and was buried there on 17th June 1663 ('infant').
  4. John Dungate was baptised on 26th March 1664 in West Hoathly, Sussex. He was mentioned in his mother's 'Will' of 1695. He probably married Anne Turner (daughter of Richard Turner) on 10th December 1702 in Lindfield, Sussex (license issued at Lewes on 8th November, Ann of Keymer & John of West Hoathly). John & Anne had seven children.
    1. John Dungate was baptised on 25th February 1704 in West Hoathly, Sussex. He possibly married Susannah Huett on 23rd July 1730 in Withyham, Sussex (John of West Hoathly & Susan of East Grinstead). John lived at Ducklies in West Hoathly and left a 'Will' dated 16th August 1755. John & Susannah had four children in West Hoathly (Thomas (1733), John, Susannah & Frances - John left a 'Will dated 26th September 1794 ).
    2. Philadelphia Dungate was baptised on 13th November 1705 in West Hoathly, Sussex. She possibly married Thomas Comber on 27th April 1731 in West Hoathly, Sussex.
    3. Charles Dungate was baptised on 9th January 1708 in West Hoathly, Sussex. He married Mary. He left a 'Will' dated 21st June 1751. He witnessed his brother John's 'Will' of 1755. Mary was mentioned in her husbands 'Will' as widow.
    4. Richard Dungate was baptised on 5th December 1710 in West Hoathly, Sussex. Assumed died prior to 1717.
    5. Sarah Dungate was baptised on 23rd July 1712 in West Hoathly, Sussex.
    6. Anne Dungate was baptised on 28th April 1714 in West Hoathly, Sussex and she was buried there on 5th July 1714 ('infant').
    7. Richard Dungate was baptised on 2nd November 1717 in West Hoathly, Sussex. He was mentioned in his brother George's 'Will' of 1751 but was also shown as deceased by 1758. He witnessed his brother John's 'Will' of 1755.
  5. Henry Dungate was baptised on 4th June 1665 in West Hoathly, Sussex and was buried there on 23rd December 1674 ('youth').
  6. Edward Dungate was baptised on 10th June 1666 in West Hoathly, Sussex and was buried there on 15th December 1666 ('infant').
  7. Nicholas Dungate was baptised on 23rd June 1667 in West Hoathly, Sussex and was buried there on 25th March 1684 ('young').
  8. Jane Dungate was baptised on 27th May 1670 in West Hoathly, Sussex. She was mentioned in her mother's 'Will' of 1695.
  9. Henry Dungate was baptised on 17th March 1675 in West Hoathly, Sussex. He was mentioned in his mother's 'Will' of 1695.

  1. There were numerous differant spellings of "Dungate" in the parish registers. eg Dungatt, Dungat, Dunget, Dungete Dungatte,Dongat, Dongatt, Dongett, Dongate, Downgate, Doungate.

Wills:

  1. Jane Dungate (family ref top) left a 'Will' dated 11th January 1696 and was proved on 1st July 1699 (Ref LEWES A43.P162) . The link is to a transcript of the will. In the 'Will' she mentions her sons John & Henry; her daughters Anne, wife of Joseph Dungate of Lindfield, and Jane; her grandchildren Sarah, Anne & Jane daughters of Anne; Others : John Payne of Stonelands, West Hoathly; Witnesses Jeremiah Payne, Anne Paine, Joseph Dungate.
  2. John Dungate (family ref 4 A) left a 'Will' dated 16th August 1755 and was proved on 20th March 1795 (Ref PCC PROB 11/1257) . The link is to a transcript of the will. In the 'Will' he mentions his wife Susannah and his son Thomas Huett. His son John was unnamed in Will but proved it. Wintesses were Charles Dungate;  ...? Turner;  Richd Dungate.
  3. John Dungate (family ref 4 A ii) left a 'Will' dated 26th September 1794 and was proved on 18thDecember 1798 (Ref PCC PROB 11/1316) . The link is to a transcript of the will. In the 'Will' he mentions his wife Jane , his daughter Jane , hid son John Henry (& Susannah his wife) and his granddaughter Sussannah (daughter of John Henry). Also mentioned are Richard Cuddington, John Farmer, Mary Dale . Witnesses were  Edw’d Stanford;  Henry Constable;  James Swift.
  4. Charles Dungate (family ref 4 C) left a 'Will' dated 21st June 1751 and was proved on 22nd December 1758 (Ref PCC PROB 11/842) . The link is to a transcript of the will. In the 'Will' he mentions his Wife Mary (widow) & his brother Richard. Witnesses were  Benjamin Maynard, Thomas Maynard & Mary Cumber.
